Green Remodeling Tips (2)

As spring and summer approach, we all reluctantly think of the dreaded energy costs associated with the Carolina heat. Here are several cost-effective, "Green Remodeling" tips you can easily implement as we prepare for the heat.

(1) Windows - by installing double pane, low-E windows, you can significantly reduce the effects of heat conduction and convection in the home.

(2) Tankless Water Heaters - or "On Demand" water heaters can increase your monthly energy savings. Heating water accounts for 15-30% of an average home's energy budget. Tankless water heaters provide hot water only as needed, as opposed to a traditional water heater that regularly heats large amounts of water that are then stored and ultimately lose heat and energy.

(3) Water Conservation - products like low-flow toilets and shower fixtures, rain barrels and high-efficiency drainage systems, can save an average of 15-30 gallons of water per day.

As spring and summer approach, we all reluctantly think of the dreaded energy costs associated with the Carolina heat. Here are several cost-effective, "Green Remodeling" tips you can easily implement as we prepare for the heat.

(1) Attic Insulation - adding additional attic insulation will help stop heat transfer during the summer. A rule of thumb is if you can see the tops of your ceiling joists, you probably need more insulation.

(2) Installing Radiant Barriers in the Attic - radiant barriers reflect radiant heat energy transferred through infrared radiation from the sun. The sun's rays travel through the roof and heat the air molecules trapped in the attic and house. This causes air conditioners to work harder to cool the air. Properly installed radiant barriers work with insulation and can block up to 97% of the sun's rays. This can reduce monthly energy costs by 17%.

A New Appreciation For Home Remodeling

As DiFabion Remodeling continues to hit the streets and regularly meet with homeowners across the Charlotte region, we have noticed a common issue. Coming out of the two year recession, many homeowners are experiencing extreme difficulty in the sell of their home. Faced with the prospect of staying in their home for a bit longer than expected, homeowners are now finding a new appreciation for home remodeling. Many homeowners are transitioning from the desire for a cheap, "quick fix" in order to sell their home to a desire for quality home remodeling so they may continue to live in their home comfortably and content. The educated homeowner is now placing a higher importance on quality craftmanship and customer service, in order to receive the best possible finished product at the best value. This, in turn, results in a higher quality of life and ultimately maximizes property values for when it is the right time to sell.
